A  State Patrol car staffs the closure of westbound Highway 530 near Darrington following the Oso mudslide.  Gov. Inslee cites the S.R. 530 disaster, and Skagit River bridge collapse, in his new transportation plan.  “Let’s Move Forward” includes money for bridges and infrastructure, and upgraded technology to predict slides. Sound Transit would be able to ask big new tax increases for light rail, but improvements to the state’s highways and bridges would get paid by a “market-based carbon pollution fee” under Gov.
