It’s back. The first Downtown Block Party in 2017 brought an estimated 30,000 people to the heart of Iowa City on a Saturday night for community fun. The party is returning from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday (6/23), rain or shine, throughout the entire downtown area. It’s an all-ages event featuring live music stages, sand volleyball in the middle of a city street, hatchet-throwing demonstrations, fashion show, DJ competition, silent disco (where participants listen and dance to music via wireless headphones), an outdoor movie, pingpong, giant Jenga, mini golf and other games and attractions. Admission is free, but $11 wristbands and official cups are required for people ages 21 and over who want to take beer or wine from restaurants into the streets.
