By Carmen FormanStaff writercforman@oklahoman.comLAWTON — Protesters will gather near Fort Sill on Saturday to object to the federal government placing migrant children at the facility that once was used as an internment camp. Among the protesters will be about 40 elder Japanese Americans who spent some of their childhood years growing up in Japanese internment camps. The Japanese Americans, who are part of the grassroots group Tsuru for Solidarity, will travel to Lawton from across the country, said Satsuki Ina, the group’s co-chair. Ina said the detention of migrant children seeking asylum is similar to when the federal government detained about 120,000 Japanese immigrants and Japanese Americans during World War II. “We want to make that connection so the general public, politicians and legislators can see things from our perspective,” she said.Read more on NewsOK.com
