It was another play to strengthen Broncos tight end Austin Fort’s case for going from undrafted rookie to on the opening-game roster. In the fourth quarter of last August’s preseason game at Seattle, Fort got open running a route down the left seam and caught quarterback Drew Lock’s pass for a 29-yard gain. But as he was simultaneously catching the football at hip level and attempting to turn up field, Fort’s left knee landed wrong on the turf. Just like that, Fort’s year was over, his ACL and MCL torn and part of his meniscus damaged and ultimately removed during surgery. Fort’s uncertainty — would he have a future with the Broncos?
