LIMA — The Joint Systems Manufacturing Center now has the option to expand its production capabilities by bringing in commercial work from private businesses, in addition to its defense contracts with U.S. and foreign governments. A U.S. Army official told Task Force LIMA members Monday that a recently approved statute allows the JSMC to partner with private companies to produce commercial goods, which the facility was unable to do before because of security reasons. This would likely occur during periods where the facility isn’t producing as many tanks or other defense vehicles.
