Outfielder Khris Davis, the A’s leading home-run hitter, was just removed from Wednesday night’s lineup with a left shoulder contusion. Davis is presumed to have incurred the injury crashing into the wall in left at AT&T Park in the first inning of Tuesday night’s game, trying to chase down a double by Brandon Belt of the Giants. The A’s already were going to be light on the bench Wednesday after opting to keep an extra reliever, Zach Neal, and send out utility player Arismendy Alcantara to make room for starting pitcher Sean Manaea. Oakland’s extra position players for the game against the Giants at the Coliseum are catcher Josh Phegley (who also is the team’s emergency pitcher - and given how stretched thin the bullpen is, that could factor) and outfielder Jake Smolinski. Sean Doolittle, who was unavailable to pitch Tuesday after a heavy workload last week including a 33-pitch outing Saturday, played catch before Wednesday’s game but it’s difficult to imagine him being available Wednesday.
