When it comes to measuring the height of the corn crop, "knee high by the Fourth of July" is a familiar adage. But with improved farming practices and genetics, such as tiled fields for better drainage and seeds that can be planted earlier because they are more resistant to rot, corn growers say they expect much more from their crop these days.
