Kroger Co. is trying to cut off Wal-Mart at the pass when it comes to cutting prices. Cincinnati-based Kroger (NYSE: KR), the nation’s largest operator of traditional supermarkets and the sixth-largest employer in the Dayton region with 4,389 employees, cut prices on about 1,000 products in the 120 stores that make up its Mid-Atlantic region.
