Witness says victim's boat was lit up, traveling slowly The boat carrying 8-year-old Charlotte McCue on Lake George was moving slowly and shining three lights when it was struck by Alexander West's fast-moving motorboat in a crash that killed the child, an expert witness testified Friday at West's manslaughter trial. Weinreber, a certified boat safety instructor, explained he assessed the damage to both vessels, watched a video taken of the crash and used his findings to draw conclusions. West was driving his Larson from dinner in Bolton Landing after spending several hours at Log Bay Day, an annual boozefest on the east side of the lake. The blades hit a passenger seat area, he said. West faces up to 22 years in prison if convicted of charges that include second-degree manslaughter, felony assault, boating while intoxicated and leaving the scene of the crash.
