Late Surge Carries Tribe Over Cougars, Akard

KINGSPORT — For the second time this season, Big 7 Conference-leading Dobyns-Bennett escaped the clutches of the Cougars from Sullivan Central. And once again the trap was sprung on the Indians’ home turf by Central starter Michael Akard. Akard had handcuffed the Tribe on a complete-game two- hitter at J. Fred Johnson Stadium on April 3 but still suffered the 4-2 loss on Daniel Starnes’ two-run seventh-inning homer. Leading by one run Tuesday evening, the Tribe (19-10, 9-1) once again needed some seventh-inning magic to subdue Clay Colley’s Cougars, winning 5-0 in a game played at J.
