MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — Police say they've arrested a man who posed as a gas company worker to steal gold jewelry from an elderly Long Island woman. Frank Nicholas is charged with burglary in connection with the June 20 incident in Herricks. Nassau County police say Thursday that Nicholas approached the woman's door wearing a yellow work vest and construction hat and said he worked for the National Grid gas company. They say the 27-year-old Maryland man told the woman he was investigating a gas explosion and needed to check inside for a leak. Police say Nicholas went into the 79-year-old woman's bedroom and swiped the jewelry while she waited in the kitchen. They say two similar burglaries happened in Westbury and Syosset around the same time. Information on Nicholas' attorney wasn't immediately available.Read more on NewsOK.com
