CEDAR RAPIDS — The Linn County Sheriff’s Office and jail are anticipated to be closed for a week due to flooding.Sheriff Brian Gardner said the jail was successfully evacuated on Saturday and a four-foot wall of HESCO barriers was placed around the jail and courthouse. An eight-foot wall was built around the sheriff’s office on Friday. While the jail and courthouse sit on May’s Island in the middle of the rising Cedar River, Gardner said the facilities are actually at a higher elevation than the sheriff’s office and thus require a shorter wall. All male inmates are currently being housed at the Anamosa State Penitentiary, and female inmates have been moved to the Washington County Jail.
