Colin Farrell did it in a phone booth. Ryan Reynolds in a coffin. And now Tom Hardy is doing it in a BMW, with Locke a single-location film about a man whose world falls apart over the course of a car journey from Birmingham to Croydon. But where those films were thrillers in which the stakes were high and lives were literally on the line, Locke is a much smaller story concerning an ostensibly good man who has made a bad decision and is now trying to deal with the consequences. Tom Hardy plays the title character – Ivan Locke – a building site foreman who leaves work as the film begins, and should be heading home to spend the evening watching football with his wife and kids.
