Similar Stories to Long Search For Clean Water May Take Longer Than Expected For Residents Of Oklahoma Town on Bing News

By Graham Lee Brewer, Staff WriterLEXINGTON — Some residents of this small town have been fighting for more than a decade for clean drinking water, a battle that recently brought them to the steps of the local prison. After a meeting this week with state Corrections Department officials, some of those residents are feeling a mixture of optimism and disappointment. Residents in the rural area south of the prison have dealt with heavy amounts of contamination in their water, causing them to rely on robust filtration systems or to purchase water in bulk or by the bottle. On Wednesday, Covey attended a meeting with the state Corrections Department’s legal counsel to go over their proposed plan, where he said legal concerns prompted the department to back out until legislation can directly address perceived legal issues. “We’ve been at this so long,” Covey said.Read more on NewsOK.com
