AUGUSTA — Attorney General Janet Mills says an investigation concluded a Maine trooper who killed a man last year in Ludlow was justified in using deadly force. The report released Friday concluded Sgt. Joshua Haines fired his rifle in self-defense after Alan Gillotti chambered a round and pointed a handgun at troopers. The report said two troopers had gone to Gillotti’s home after he and another man had allegedly kicked in doors at two homes while looking for someone. The report said Gillotti refused to drop the weapon before pointing it at troopers, and Mills says all the facts point toward self-defense.
