Marvin P. Heery III was recalled Friday as a “dreamer with determination” who spent his life putting others’ needs before his own. “He was a Christian with compassion,” said the Rev. Frank Parr, a lifelong friend and former pastor at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church. “He thought there could be faith-based solutions to help people.” Heery, a former homeless man who became an advocate for homeless initiatives here, died July 9 at Memorial University Medical Center.
