COVENTRY TWP.: The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is on the verge of rebuilding the aging East Reservoir dam — a massive project that will impact life in the Portage Lakes area for more than a year.Built around 1840 to create a massive water reservoir for the Ohio and Erie Canal, the state-owned dam has far outlived its lifespan and fails to meet modern safety standards, experts say.
