WASHINGTON – Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian called Tuesday for a change in federal policy to make sure people on Medicaid can keep their benefits should they be held in jail awaiting trial and, if convicted, be able to restart those benefits upon release.“Denying Medicaid benefits just creates a major hurdle for many to achieve successful reentry into the community,” he said.
