Bakersfield-area residents may have experienced the last in a string of close encounters with drought-affected black bears this year -- or not. Just in case we haven't seen the end of these visitations, it would pay to listen to wildlife officials who are urging caution and preparedness. In the last two months, Kern County has seen at least 10 black bears on the hunt for fresh food and water come into populated areas.
