Veterans and community leaders applauded the hiring of Maria Andrews last week as the next director of the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center, saying her 35 years of experience in government health care could give the troubled Augusta hospital a fresh start. Andrews, a native of Pennsylvania, comes to Augusta after serving as director of the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center in Alabama, where she was instrumental in passing several new policies that improved veteran care through increasing the hospital’s visibility in the community. read more
