NBC News continues to be irresistibly drawn to women with White House bloodlines.  Tuesday, the news division announced it had re-hired President John F. Kennedy’s niece, Maria Shriver as “special anchor” to report and produce specials and features about the “profound impact that women’s rising influence and leadership has on all aspects of American culture and society.”

... Pressed with the awful urgency of the story, TV, along with other media, fell prey to reporting "facts" that were often in conflict or wrong. How many people were killed? Which Lanza brother was the shooter: Adam or Ryan? Was their mother, who was among the slain, a teacher at the school?

Incoming CNN President Jeff Zucker said Thursday that he intends to make the network more "vibrant and exciting" while broadening the programming on television's original but struggling cable news outlet. The former NBC Universal chief's long-rumored selection as CNN president was announced Thursday. He'll start in January and report to Phil Kent, who runs all the Turner networks for parent company Time Warner.

Time magazine and CNN suspended Fareed Zakaria, the writer and television host, on Friday after he apologized for plagiarizing sections of his column on gun control in the Aug. 20 issue of Time.

Amidst record low ratings, Time Warner-owned CNN reportedly has major changes coming its way. Time Warner chief Jeff Bewkes recently told reporters that he was "not happy with CNN's ratings performance and...focused on fixing it."

CNN Worldwide President Jim Walton said on Friday that he was leaving the once-dominant cable news network, which has struggled in the ratings in recent years, on December 31.

Fox News Channel's morning show on Wednesday twice aired a nearly four-minute video that contrasted President Barack Obama's words with negative statistics about his administration in a format that looked similar to a campaign advertisement.

Fox News says it has fired an associate producer after learning he was the "Fox Mole" hired by the news blog Gawker. The network said Joe Muto, who worked on "The O'Reilly Factor" and said he had been working at Fox News since 2004, was identified and fired. Fox said it was "continuing to explore legal recourse against Mr. Muto and possibly others."
