Archibald Cox Jr. (May 17, 1912 – May 29, 2004) was an American legal scholar who served as U.S. Solicitor General under President John F. Kennedy and as a special prosecutor during the Watergate scandal. During his career, he was a pioneering expert on labor law and was also an authority on constitutional law.

Archibald Cox (1912–2004), a distinguished lawyer, is best known for his role as special prosecutor in the Watergate investigation, but his career also involved him in a number of First Amendment issues. Cox’s won First Amendment cases during the Civil Rights era. Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, Cox graduated from Harvard Law School in 1937.
