Ba‘ath Party | History, Ideology, & Movement | Britannica
Ba‘ath Party, Pan-Arabist political party advocating the formation of a single Arab socialist nation, founded in Damascus by Michel Aflaq and Salah al-Din Bitar. It became the ruling party in Syria in 1963 and in Iraq in 1968. Iraq’s Ba‘ath Party, led by Saddam Hussein, was toppled in 2003 in the Iraq War.
