Simone Lucie Ernestine Marie Bertrand de Beauvoir [a] ( UK: / də ˈboʊvwɑːr /, US: / də boʊˈvwɑːr /; [2] [3] French: [simɔn də bovwaʁ] ⓘ; 9 January 1908 – 14 April 1986) was a French existentialist philosopher, writer, social theorist, and feminist activist.

Simone de Beauvoir (1908–86) was a French existentialist writer. She is known for her treatise The Second Sex (1949), an argument for the abolition of what she called the myth of the ‘eternal feminine.’. It became a classic of feminist literature. She also won the Prix Goncourt for her novel The Mandarins (1954).
