M.U.G.E.N (also written as MUGEN and Mugen; officially pronounced "moo-g en") is a freeware 2D fighting game engine developed by Elecbyte. The most recent version of M.U.G.E.N to be publicly released is version 1.1 Beta 1, which was released on August 7th 2013, though the most recent stable build is version 1.0, released on January 18th 2011.

M.U.G.E.N is a 2D fighting game engine that is enables you to create commercial-quality fighting games. Almost everything can be customized, from individual characters to stages, as well as the look and feel of the game. After downloading M.U.G.E.N, unzip it into a new folder and double-click mugen.exe to run.

Usage. The mconsole can be activated and deactivated by pressing the Control + tilde (Ctrl + ~) keys. Once the console is active, commands can be typed in and executed by M.U.G.E.N. For example, the F12 key will take a screenshot of the current screen. To do the same in the mconsole, just type 'screenshot' (without quotes) and press enter.

With Photoshop, go to Image->Mode->Indexed Color. A window will pop up. In this window, set the palette to Exact. If you're using Photoshop 5 or higher, don't click on OK yet. For earlier versions of Photoshop, click OK, then convert to RGB (Image->Mode->RGB Color), then click on Image->Mode->Indexed Color again.
