These particles can include neutrons, alpha particles (helium nuclei), beta particles (), and gamma rays (which consist of particles of light, or photons).Fission was discovered in 1938 by Otto Hahn, Lise Meitner, and Fritz Strassmann by bombarding elements with neutrons.
