He was the eldest of six children of the Duke and Duchess of York (the future King George V and Queen Mary). Edward was educated at home until the age of 13. He then attended Royal Naval College, Osborne, from 1907 to 1909, and Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, from 1909 to 1911.
