4.4 Muscle Tissue – Anatomy & Physiology - Open Educational Resources
The muscle cell, or myocyte, develops from myoblasts derived from the mesoderm. Myocytes and their numbers remain relatively constant throughout life. Skeletal muscle tissue is arranged in bundles surrounded by connective tissue. Under the light microscope, muscle cells appear striated with many nuclei squeezed along the membranes.
Muscle Cells (Myocyte) - Physiopedia
Introduction. This article is about skeletal myocytes. Myocytes, sometimes called muscle fibers, form the bulk of muscle tissue. They are bound together by perimysium, a sheath of connective tissue, into bundles called fascicles, which are in turn bundled together to form muscle tissue.
Muscles and muscle tissue: Types and functions | Kenhub
Regardless of its morphology or type, muscle tissue is composed of specialized cells known as muscle cells or myocytes (myo- [muscle, Greek = mys]), commonly referred to as muscle fibers (all of these terms are interchangeable); this is due to their extensive length and appearance.

This is what we wanted to get to, but we're going to go even within the muscle cell to see, understand how all the myosin and the actin filaments fit into that muscle cell. So this right here is a muscle cell or a myofiber.
Types of muscle cells: Characteristics, location, roles | Kenhub
Muscle cells, commonly known as myocytes, are the cells that make up muscle tissue. There are 3 types of muscle cells in the human body; cardiac, skeletal, and smooth. Cardiac and skeletal myocytes are sometimes referred to as muscle fibers due to their long and fibrous shape.
