Webb captures iconic Horsehead Nebula in unprecedented detail
The NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope has captured the sharpest infrared images to date of one of the most distinctive objects in our skies, the Horsehead Nebula. These observations show a part of the iconic nebula in a whole new light, capturing its complexity with unprecedented spatial resolution. Webb’s new images show part of the ...
Hubble's sharpest view of the Orion Nebula | ESA/Hubble
The Orion Nebula is 1,500 light-years away, the nearest star-forming region to Earth. Astronomers used 520 Hubble images, taken in five colours, to make this picture. They also added ground-based photos to fill out the nebula. The ACS mosaic covers approximately the apparent angular size of the full moon.
Stars and Nebulas | HubbleSite
Today, Hubble has observed many of these nebulas and found a wide range of complicated and extraordinary shapes, from tunnels to interlocking rings. The Cat's Eye Nebula, for example, consists of 11 bubbles of gas. The Helix Nebula looks like a giant eye staring at us through space.
Hubble’s Nebulae - NASA Science
Overview. The space between stars is dotted with twisting towers studded with stars, unblinking eyes, ethereal ribbons, and floating bubbles. These fantastical shapes, some of the universe’s most visually stunning constructions, are nebulae, clouds of gas and dust that can be the birthplace of stars, the scene of their demise – and sometimes both.
