Sycamore Trees: Leaves, Bark, Types - Identification Guide (Pictures)
Sycamore trees have serrated lobed leaves that resemble maple leaves with three to five lobes. Sycamores have thin, peeling reddish-brown bark and seed balls that drop in spring. Sycamore trees grow to between 100 and 130 ft. (30 – 40 m) tall. Sycamore trees are common throughout North America.

Sycamore ( Platanus species) is a deciduous tree with ten species worldwide. Five Platanus species grow in Mexico, two grow in the southwestern U.S., and one grows in the eastern U.S. American sycamore, Platanus occidentalis, is the eastern species and is common throughout South Carolina. It grows well in USDA Hardiness Zones 4 to 9.

Select a new-growth branch (it should have a pair of buds on the bottom and two pairs of leaves). Cut a shoot 6 to 8 inches long. Get a planting container ready by filling it with potting soil. Using a pencil, poke a hole into this soil. Take off any leaves growing out of the bottom of the branch (but keep the buds).
