Founded in 1858, the Tallmadge Historical Society is Ohio’s oldest historical society. We are dedicated to collecting, preserving, and interpreting the memories and artifacts of the people, places and things that make Tallmadge, Ohio, home.
History | The Tallmadge Historical Society
Tallmadge was founded in 1807 by Reverend David Bacon and is the second-oldest city in Summit County. Before its founding, the town was a part of the Connecticut Western Reserve, a three million acre plot of land in northeast Ohio. The town was named after Benjamin Tallmadge, an American Revolutionary War figure and local landowner.

Tallmadge is a city in Summit and Portage counties in Ohio, United States. It is a suburb of Akron and part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 17,537 at the 2010 census. Tallmadge was founded in 1807 and is the second-oldest city in Summit County, following Hudson, which was founded in 1799.

Tallmadge was founded in 1807 by the Reverend David Bacon as part of the Connecticut Western Reserve. It was Bacon who laid out the picturesque Tallmadge Circle based on the New England design of the day. Today, the Circle is still the central focal point of this community of over 17,500 people.
