13.2 Wave Properties: Speed, Amplitude, Frequency, and Period
In addition to amplitude, frequency, and period, their wavelength and wave velocity also characterize waves. The wavelength λ λ is the distance between adjacent identical parts of a wave, parallel to the direction of propagation.
Wave properties (article) | Waves | Khan Academy
Wavelength is the distance between the same spot on two sections of a wave. A wave’s frequency can be measured by how many crests (or how many troughs) pass a location in a certain amount of time. A wave with a larger frequency has more energy. If a wave’s frequency doubles, its energy also doubles.
Light: Electromagnetic waves, the electromagnetic spectrum ...
The vertical distance between the tip of a crest and the wave’s central axis is known as its amplitude. This is the property associated with the brightness, or intensity, of the wave. The horizontal distance between two consecutive troughs or crests is known as the wavelength of the wave.
Wavelength - Physics Book
The formula for frequency and wavelength is v=fλ. Wavelength depends on the medium that a wave travels through, such as air, vacuum, and water. Wavelength is a measure of the distance between repetitions of a shape feature such as peaks, valleys, or zero-crossings, not a measure of how far any given particle moves.
Wavelength - Wikipedia
In physics and mathematics, wavelength or spatial period of a wave or periodic function is the distance over which the wave's shape repeats. [1] [2] In other words, it is the distance between consecutive corresponding points of the same phase on the wave, such as two adjacent crests, troughs, or zero crossings.
