A wildfire, forest fire, or a bushfire is an unplanned, uncontrolled and unpredictable fire in an area of combustible vegetation. Depending on the type of vegetation present, a wildfire may be more specifically identified as a bushfire (in Australia), desert fire, grass fire, hill fire, peat fire, prairie fire, vegetation fire, or veld fire.

Since January 1, 24,766 wildfire have burned 3,088,589 acres in the United States. More than 24,160 of these wildfires were started by people, compared to about 1,500 that were ignited by lightning. States with the most human-caused wildfires include California, Georgia, Florida, Texas and Missouri.
