A lobbyist for the National Rifle Association compared a Washington state campaign to require criminal background checks for gun show sales to Nazi Germany. Brian Judy, the NRA’s chief state lobbyist, launched a personal attack last week on Seattle businessman Nick Hanauer, whose family has pledged $500,000 to campaign to close the gun show loophole. “He has put half-a-million dollars toward this policy, the same policy that led his family getting run out of Germany by the Nazis,” Judy said during a July 23 anti-Initiative 594 meeting. “It’s like, how stupid can they (be) — you know?” he continued, as the crowd laughed.
