SACRAMENTO — With his team sitting in first place atop the Western Conference, Nuggets coach Michael Malone said Thursday he doesn’t need clarity on why his first head coaching opportunity ended so abruptly during the 2014-15 season. Malone, then coaching the Kings, was fired 24 games into his second season even though star center DeMarcus Cousins was at that point sidelined with viral meningitis. “I will always wonder what if,” said Malone, when asked about reaching the postseason in Sacramento.
