Jason KerseyNORMAN — Oklahoma defensive tackle Jordan Phillips received a medical hardship following the back surgery that cost him most of last season. Phillips, from Towanda, Kan., is listed as a redshirt sophomore on the team’s official roster, and OU spokesman Pete Moris confirmed that Phillips received the hardship from the Big 12 Conference. The 6-foot-6, 334-pound defensive tackle started the Sooners’ first four games last season before needing the back surgery, which was in response to a long-term problem. Phillips recorded seven tackles and 1.5 sacks in his limited action a year ago, but was seen as a dominating presence inside the defensive line for the Sooners. Defensive coordinator Mike Stoops said last month that Phillips had returned to full workouts this summer, and discussed how important he is to the team’s defense. “We missed him inside; Jordan Wade came in and really did a nice job for us, kinda holding down that middle, but the production, it’s different,” Stoops said.Read more on NewsOK.com
