From school reports AUBURN, Ala. – In less than 24 hours, Ole Miss baseball squandered some of the momentum it built last weekend in beating the nation’s then-No. 1-ranked team. The Rebels lost 3-1 to Auburn late Friday, then split a doubleheader on Saturday – winning the first game 7-2 and losing the nightcap 14-0. It was the worst loss of the the season for Ole Miss, which has lost four of its six SEC series but beat Vanderbilt last weekend in Nashville. And it leaves the Rebels (20-20, 8-10 SEC) still needing a strong finish to get themselves in position for an NCAA tournament berth. The series win – Auburn’s second, after beating Mississippi State in Starkville – left the Tigers at 25-16 (7-11). Ole Miss will be busy at home this week with five home games – Tuesday against Central Arkansas (6:30 p.m.), Wednesday against Memphis (6:30 p.m.) and Friday through Sunday against Alabama. A quick look at all three Ole Miss-Auburn games: Auburn 3, Ole Miss 1: On Friday night, in a game delayed two hours by rain, the Tigers scratched out nine hits against Ole Miss starter Christian Trent (5-1) and overcame 12 stranded runners. Ole Miss 7, Auburn 2: Senior catcher Austin Knight drove in a career-high four runs to lead a 13-hit assault and Scott Weathersby (2-1) won in relief.
