Ormond Yacht Club's 51-year-old Painted Compass Is More Than Scout's Project

ORMOND BEACH – When Dale Alfredson was a 12-year old Boy Scout 51 years ago, his troop was in the midst of a compass reading project and painted a compass on the floor of the Ormond Yacht Club, where Troop 74 held their weekly meetings. Today, the painted compass still adorns the club’s floor and Alfredson is still involved with the yacht club, now as a member of the board of directors and chairman of restoration and maintenance.Alfredson joined the yacht club in 1994 and has found the compass to be object of inspiration.“At times the project of restoring the building was very frustrating,” said Alfredson.
