• In a 2014 vote of no confidence at Northern New Mexico College against President Nancy Barceló, she announced plans to retire sooner than planned (summer of 2016). She became president in 2010, but her tenure became tumultuous in spring of 2013. A no-confidence vote was taken in the spring of 2014 as enrollment dropped, more layoffs occurred and several popular programs were cut to meet a reduced budget.• At Ithaca College, President Tom Rochon (since 2008) announced he would leave his position July 1, 2017, after a semester of protests and a no-confidence vote in January with 77 percent of the faculty, 71 percent of the students and 48 percent of the staff voting no confidence in the president.• Also this year, the University of Alabama at Birmingham President Ray Watts (2013) came under fire when he announced in December the closure of UAB’s Division I football program, saying it would help save the school $50 million over the next decade.
