100 Years Ago - 1916: The government has sent to Chester one of the most modern field batteries in the country, a battery which is in many respects a counterpart of the famous French units used in defending Ypres and Verdun. A brand new $40,000 battery of 3-inch field guns arrived at the Pennsylvania freight station at Morton Avenue, and drawn by 40 horses was taken to the Pennsylvania Military College, which institution will have the use of the artillery.
