By Errol Castens Daily Journal OXFORD – Police here are asking for raises, saying that the city loses too many officers because of uncompetitive pay levels. “We’re losing our three- to five-year officers,” Maj. Jeff McCutchen told Mayor Pat Patterson and aldermen last week, adding that many go to Tupelo, DeSoto County municipalities and the Mississippi Highway Patrol. “They’re telling us Oxford Police Department is a breeding ground for great officers, and we’re a ‘starter department,’” McCutchen said.
