Witnesses who saw a driver hit a pedestrian and speed away early this morning chased the driver down, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said. The pedestrian, Freddy L. Jeffers Jr., 35, was crossing West Broad Street about 3:30 a.m. today when he was hit. Some witnesses stayed with Jeffers; others followed the Nissan Altima that hit him.
