Perhaps channeling the pomp and circumstance of the pregame ceremony — flowers, sappy music, families taking pictures — Pinkins poured in a game-high 18 points, riding a bruising post game and a silky stroke to a 7-for-10 shooting night, carrying the Dons past Pacific, 65-55, at Memorial Gym in each team’s final game of the regular season. Sluggishness defined much of the game's early minutes; offensive fouls and turnovers seemed to occur just as often as made baskets. When Pacific took their first lead, 15-14, with 7:05 left in the first half, they’d made just three field goals, the rest coming on free-throw attempts. A spectacular series of plays by forward Eric Thompson, including a hook shot prayer while absorbing contact and the foul, gave Pacific a 39-35 lead a few minutes into the second half. USF forward Matt Christiansen, who finished with 14 points, nailed a hook shot with under two minutes left to extend the lead to 9.
