Pizza Makers Vie To Become Bishop's Choice

Scharfenberger said or did in his first four months as spiritual leader of the Albany Roman Catholic diocese was as controversial as this: "I haven't found any pizza up here as good as in Brooklyn."That remark published in an Aug. 14 Times Union profile fired up the competitive spirit of local pizzerias and spurred a pizza challenge.It also confirmed the fact that folks in the Capital Region are devoted to their favorite pizza.On Tuesday, several local pizza makers will try to change the opinion of Brooklyn-born Scharfenberger as they vie for bragging rights as "Bishop's Choice."Scharfenberger will roll up his sleeves and taste a bunch of slices along with other pizza lovers as part of a fundraiser for Catholic Charities.
