For more than a century, the Broadmoor has welcomed travelers to Colorado Springs with its elegant decor, high-end amenities and mountain views.
Now, fans of the historic resort can spend the night inside one of its guest rooms — while sailing around the world on a cruise ship.
Windstar Cruises, a sister company to the 106-year-old hotel, has created near-exact replicas of Broadmoor rooms onboard several of its ships.
Severe ozone pollution in metro Denver and the northern Front Range will lead to more expensive gas prices this summer as stations switch to a specialized fuel blend that will burn cleaner and release fewer toxic emissions into Colorado’s air.
But exactly how much prices will increase remains a source of debate, with estimates ranging from less than a nickel to 60 cents per gallon — which would push gas above $4 a gallon for the first time in two years.
Gas stations in a nine-county region must sell reformulated gasoline from June 1 to Sept.
The mission of a new 60,000-square-foot, 136-bed shelter for homeless youth in south Denver is evident in its layout, which on two floors features dormitory-style transitional housing divided into six “neighborhoods.”
Young people with shared experiences and needs will live together in clusters at Urban Peak’s shelter on South Acoma Street — including residents who have left foster care, who are in recovery for addictions, or who are either pregnant or already parenting children of their own. Christina Carlson, the organization’s CEO, and city housing officials say the building sets a new standard for spaces built to serve homeless youth, with a design aimed at meeting the needs of people dealing with trauma.
“Youth are different — and they need something different,” Carlson said of the shelter, dubbed the Mothership, which is set to begin opening in July.
The building is the result of eight years of planning and financial scrounging.
There aren’t many mountaineers where Malik Martin grew up in South Memphis. His parents were drug addicts, “victims of the crack epidemic,” as he puts it. He was adopted at age 2. A cousin was killed at 18. Just before he left Tennessee and relocated to Denver, his truck was stolen and his ex-girlfriend’s mother was killed in a carjacking.
“Where I’m from, there are no rock climbers,” said Martin, a professional mountaineer, filmmaker and storyteller who moved to Denver in December of 2022.
Editor’s note: The opinions of the smart, well-read women in my Denver book club mean a lot, and often determine what the rest of us choose to pile onto our bedside tables. So we asked them, and all Denver Post readers, to share their mini-reviews with you. Have any to offer?
A lot of wide receivers know what to say when they get asked about the dirty work that is usually an afterthought for a glamor position.
Of course, blocking is important. Yeah, we take pride in it. A big block can be as consequential as catching a touchdown.
Josh Reynolds? The glint in his eye when the subject comes up during organized team activities gives away two things simultaneously: First, this isn’t just lip service.
