From staff reportsA Port Hueneme man was arrested early Wednesday after officers seized firearms, ammunition and other evidence authorities said is related to a criminal investigation, Oxnard police reported.Police identified the suspect as Uriel Barrera, 19. They said he was accused of illegal possession of a firearm. Because Barrera is a convicted felon, he is prohibited from owning and possessing firearms, police said.Police said Barrera has been arrested three other times during the past four years on suspicion of possession of a firearm.Barrera’s arrest Wednesday came after Oxnard police launched a program to remove guns from those who are prohibited from having them in an effort to decrease gun-related crimes.
