The city of Portland is getting national recognition for its efforts to prevent childhood obesity. Portland has won the most top awards among the 512 communities participating in a program for towns, cities and counties that is part of first lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative, according to a press release from the city. The National League of Cities has recognized Portland for completing the program’s health and wellness goals, which include expanding access to meal programs, increasing opportunities for physical activity for kids and displaying “MyPlate” guidelines for balanced nutrition in all municipal venues where food is served. “Thanks to your dedication to the health and wellness of your community, Portland is part of a nationwide movement that supports health in cities, towns and counties across the United States,” National League of Cities President Melodee Colbert-Kean said in the city’s news release.
