GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Ariz. (AP) — Visitors to the Grand Canyon's South Rim may see smoke and encounter temporary road closures and detours Thursday due to a prescribed burn planned near the historic district of Grand Canyon Village. Park officials say fire managers plan to burn 40 acres east of the historic district and south of South Entrance Road and that the burn is part of an annual readiness review for the park and its wildland fire crews. Signs, maps and park personnel will provide directions for motorists, shuttle users, cyclists and pedestrians. Visitors interested in learning about the prescribed burn will be able to meet with fire personnel and walk with fire managers to view the fire. That activity will take place from 10 a.m.
