The region's first drop-off point for unused and expired prescriptions has been located in the Port Arthur Police Department lobby in hopes that the drugs won't be unsafely disposed of or held onto. "The potency is supposed to be less (with expired pills), but it's still effective," said Joseph Broussard, with the South East Texas Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, which purchased the drop-off box. Drugs accepted at the box include vitamins, samples, medications for pets, prescription pills, patches and ointments.
