For the last 10 months, the Lima Chapter of the NAACP has worked hard to make systemic change happen for those who are disadvantaged. As president of the chapter, I would like to update the community on what we’ve done. I also want to make the community aware of the obstacles I believe are being thrown before us by Lima Mayor David Berger. First, the NAACP would like to publicly thank ODOT, Walmart, Rudolph Foods, Allen County Job Development, The Lima Ford Engine Plant, Pepsi and all the major corporations in the area for their commitment with the chapter to improve and help with diversity problems in their companies. The NAACP also wants to acknowledge Honda for taking the initiative to Ban the Box, so ex-convicts can have a chance for employment. The NAACP has met with representatives from both hospitals as well as community leaders, officials from Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine’s office, officials from Governor Kasich’s office, local judiciary officials and every level of law enforcement to discuss the advancement of minority employment, minority business support and the unfair practices of policing and higher sentences of blacks in the judicial system. We are proud to announce that we have had positive outcomes in all meeting with all parties.
